Great place to stay, amenities spot on. A lot of thought has been put into creating a wonderful place to stay, even down to the welcome package. also great access to the Beach and the Cleveland walks.
The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The back yard has also been done really well giving a sunny relaxing outdoor space. Skininggrove is a quiet village with a small shop/post office and a cafe/bar but little else. However a great base for exploring Saltburn and the surrounding area of North Yorkshire

Paul was a helpful, friendly, responsive host; the welcome pack was a lovely touch. House was done out to a high standard, with everything you could possibly need, with a beautiful beach within a five minute walk. The dog washing facilities were certainly an added bonus!
Beautiful home, near to the beach (stunning) and short drive to Asda and Aldi. Excellent amenities and top range kitchen and bathroom. Beds very comfortable and linen and towels great quality. Absolutely did not want for anything- plentiful cleaning equipment and a gorgeous welcome gift. Best communication I have had from a host. Easy to find and check-in/out instructions were clear.
Beautifully stylish home and wonderful hosting by Paul. There’s everything you need + more in this house, plus immaculate decor + cleanliness throughout. 10/10 shower. Sun trap patio. Comfy beds. We had a fantastic few days in Paul’s house in Skinningrove. Beautiful, well appointed Airbnb. Comfortable beds and great shower. Paul was very responsive and helpful when we had questions. There’s not much to do in Skinningrove itself, but the beach is amazing and quite quiet – we spent a lot of time there, our 3 year old loved it. Would also recommend Saltburn and Sandsend nearby for beach days with little ones.
An immaculately restored cottage with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The host was responsive, flexible and very helpful in ensuring we could maximise our time in the area. A great location with a remote and quiet beach to walk our dogs. Enjoyed close access for the Cleveland Way path which enabled us to explore staithes and Saltburn. Local amenities are scarce but it is more than made up by the quality of the property and the many facilities included. Highly recommended.
The house was immaculate and really well equipped. Can’t think of any single item that was missing. Spotlessly clean throughout. Looked like a show home. Would definitely recommend.
Griff house is a brilliantly updated and extended end of terrace cottage in Skinningrove. It’s very well equipped with good quality appliances, kitchen tools, pots & pans, cutlery and crockery.
Our first looks on any rental are for the bed and the bathroom. Griff Cottage ticks all boxes: lovely comfortable king-size bed and a superb shower. Big TVs everywhere you might want.
Parking is easy, we found the space at the back suited us best but there’s another there for a small car and you can also park right outside the front door.
Skinningrove is very quiet, you’ll need to buy all your needs elsewhere. Loftus, next door village, has a great Coop and several nice coffee shops. It also has a car park with 12 EV charging points ( thanks for the tip Paul) which was great for us, with an electric car.
Overall we had a lovely stay, with no previous knowledge of this part of the world we found lots to do and the local beach is excellent. Paul is a superb host!
Top notch accommodation with absolutely everything you could possibly need. Spacious and immaculate with high quality fittings and furnishings. Well situated for day trips by car to Whitby, Robin Hood Bay, Staithes, etc but also has great outside space for relaxing. We can highly recommend the Chinese takeaway in nearby Brotton, which does delivery.
A superbly renovated property that was a joy to stay in. Beds and sofas were so comfortable. We usually come away from AirBnb’s saying “if only they’d done x, y and z it would be so much better” – Not this time! Quality fixtures and fittings, great design features, quiet and in a great location just a stones throw from stunning beaches and excellent walking. Paul has thought of every detail to make staying here a pleasure and was very responsive and helpful as a host. Highly recommend.
We have just returned from a lovely stay at Griff Cottage, our first break away with our baby.
Griff cottage had everything that we needed, and was a cosy yet spacious place to stay. The accommodation is very modern and felt very clean and well looked after.
Paul was great beforehand and throughout our stay, offering assistance should we need it.

What can I say! This is the best Airbnb that we’ve stayed in and we’ve been using Airbnb since 2016. We had a friend with us for whom it was a first experience and she said she would try to avoid hotels in future. The cottage was exactly as the pictures show but the friendly welcome and welcome treats were exceptional. We were really lucky with the weather and enjoyed the outdoor space with a lovely sun trap and a great summerhouse. The technology gave a great choice of home entertainment. Apart from the cottage, the nearby coast is stunning. Cliff walks and interesting places like Whitby, Staithes and Saltburn. Really good to be able to walk to places and get public transport back! We loved it all and will definitely be back!
This has to be one of the best equipped houses we’ve ever stayed in! We loved it. Communication with Paul was great from start to finish. The “welcome basket” was a lovely touch as were the cakes which were delivered the day after we arrived. It felt like a real home from home.

Lovely comfortable home . Very clean and comfortable . A shower that was spa quality . Very well equipped and high tech! Lovely beach , on the Cleveland way with saltburn, staithes and Whitby close by . The village is quiet and you can see the remnants of the industrial past . Good amenities close by . We really enjoyed it.
Just spent 5 days here totally relaxing, the house and everything in it was more than you would ever need. Felt very luxurious and loved all the extra touch’s, cakes, milk, wine, beer such a great welcome pack.

We’ve had a lovely stay at Griff Cottage. The accommodation is great throughout, modern, very clean and an ideal base for exploring the Cleveland Way. The cakes on arrival were delicious, and we enjoyed the beer and wine. The kitchen is well kitted out, and the smart tvs and speakers were a nice touch, as were the dressing gowns. We enjoyed sitting in the summer house, lovely and warm when the sun is shining, even in February. Great hosts, friendly and responsive.
Quiet village great for walks and dog friendly ++ even had balls bowls and towels for dog . can’t rate highly the cleanliness was immaculate love the kitchen and bathroom modern bedrooms . Even yard was clean . Host was helpful and friendly he even warned window cleaner might visit ! Loved the cakes and wine and beer milk was appreciated. Technically savvy people will be wowed . Everything you need really. Glad we found this place and we looked at a lot! Thankyou
We’ve just returned from 4 nights at Griff Cottage with our 4 month old and dog and had a truly lovely break. The cottage is so well equipped and we felt so at home. Paul was very communicative and provided us with a travel cot upon arrival, we also very much enjoyed the cakes from a local bakery – a nice welcome touch after a long journey.
The dog was well catered for and loved the short stroll to the beach in the mornings. We also visited Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay – all within easy reach.
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Griff Cottage, it was the perfect retreat and we’d love to come back. Thank you so much!
We had an enjoyable stay over New Year at Paul’s cottage. The house was modern, clean and tastefully decorated. Some of the touches like the music system were an added bonus. We felt completely relaxed and at home there. We stayed with our two young children and a dog. It was great to have a welcome pack of essentials and even the dog was catered for.
The street was quiet and we never heard from the adjoining neighbours.
The award winning beach, within walking distance, was beautiful.
We tried the local restaurant down the road for a drink and the people who served us were so friendly and welcoming.
The location of Skinningrove was a great place to visit the likes of Whitby and Saltburn.
Paul was great at keeping in touch to see if we were settling in OK, even though he was on holiday himself.
We would highly recommend this property and Paul as a host.

The owners have done a brilliant job making sure everything is perfect with the best communication I have had with an owner in all my years using Airbnb. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need and more. Especially with the tech ie Alexa,TV usb charging points etc. Everything was spotlessly clean, and we loved the little treats left, including sometyfor the dogs. The shower was the best I’ve had for a while, with very comfy beds. The location is great for accessing the beach in 5 mins and joining the Cleveland Way. Skinningrove is a small village and doesn’t have many facilities but their is a post office and we had a nice meal at Kaskane; a 10 min walk max from the cottage. There are shops etc just in the next village Loftus. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are looking for a good location next to the sea, easy access to walks and a short drive to some lovely places. Whitby was about 30 mins drive.

We absolutely loved this cottage, everything has been done to such a high standard and it is equipped with everything you could possibly need. It was spotless on arrival and we loved the cosy living room. The bed was very comfy and bathroom very luxurious. Treats on arrival were very tasty as well! The cottage is very dog friendly, the location is great for exploring the area as well as a fantastic beach only 5 mins walk away. I’m sure we’ll be back again at some point!
We had a fantastic stay at Griff Cottage! Paul and Cath have refurbished the place to an incredibly luxe, high standard, and have included everything you could possibly need (and more!). Comfortable beds, cosy sitting room, a lovely luxurious bathroom and a gorgeous kitchen. We also made use of the excellent outdoor seating, a real sun trap. Lovely treats to discover on arrival (no spoilers!) and the cakes from a local bakery are a lovely touch and so delicious. It really did feel like a home away from home and served as a great base to explore the surrounding coastline. Can’t recommend Griff Cottage enough. Thanks Paul and Cath!

Loved our stay in the cottage, it is short of nothing. Shower is wonderful. Beds are very comfy and the simple things such as bath sheets which are large enough to wrap around you after a shower. Beautifully decorated. Communication with Paul was brilliant.

We had a great stay in the cottage, lovely beach and location. The cottage is fully equipped and everything is immaculate. Kitchen was a joy to cook in. The beds are super comfortable, a powerful shower- plus a bath! Communication was excellent with Paul. Welcome treats also a very nice touch. We wouldn’t hesitate to book again. A touch of luxury.
Just wow what a little gem Griff Cottage is! Spotlessly clean and everything you could possibly need. My dogs especially enjoyed the outside shower in the middle of a heatwave. Paul made it clear he was always at hand if I needed anything and the welcome pack was so lovely and generous especially the cakes. I am so glad that we managed to book a week at Griff Cottage.
It was the perfect getaway that we needed. The cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. The back garden is a sun trap and perfect to get lost in a book in. The beach is a 5 minute walk with other coastal walks easily accessible.
Paul is a great host with great communication. We will definitely be back.
We have just got back from a weekend away for my mums birthday and we all loved it here! They have thought of everything from the welcome goodies to the most comfortable beds ever! It is so tastefully decorated too with plenty of room for my little Pomeranian. Communication was also great throughout . This is my second stay here and it won’t be my last!
We were so impressed by our stay in Griff cottage. The cottage itself was perfect – nicely decorated, exceptionally clean and had a lovely outdoors courtyard space with picnic table and summer house. The cottage had everything you needed and I was very impressed by the supply of basics including tea/coffee/sugar/oil/salt/pepper/foil/soap/washing up liquid etc. In addition, Paul had left us some extra treats which were very much appreciated. He also made the cottage child friendly by providing travel cot and highchair and putting up a stair gate. Check-in and communication with Paul was very easy.
We loved the location within the sleepy village of Skinningrove and the 5 minute walk to the beautiful (dog friendly) white sand beach. There is also easy access onto the Cleveland way. Skinningrove is located within a short drive of Saltburn, Staithes, Runswick Bay and only 30 minutes to Whitby.
We will definitely be back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Griff Cottage. Paul had ensured that the house was immaculately clean and the extras left for us made for a relaxing start to our holiday. The house is a few minutes easy flat walking to a great beach which we were able to take great advantage of due to the wonderful weather. The outside space has good seating and plenty of shade as well as sunny areas. We found all the inside spaces comfortable to relax in.
The location of the House is ideal for visits to Marske, Saltburn, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Roseberry Topping as well as access up onto the coastal paths ( but this is quite a steep climb out of the village) with fabulous views.
Had a lovely staff at Giff Cottage. The cottage literally has everything you need and more. It was spotlessly clean and the garden is an added bonus as it is a sun trap. The host left us everything we needed for our first night including wine and the most beautiful cakes. Would highly recommend staying here.

This is truly an amazing property. It is luxurious and every little detail has been considered by Paul who is an awesome host. The treats upon arrival were really appreciated; communication was fast and superb and Paul went above and beyond with his service. You will love everything about this place. It’s a short stroll to the beach and a nice eatery. Bigger villages and towns are nearby too. Outside is just as relaxing as inside. Do yourself a favour and book this place!
The property is of an exceptional standard – Paul has certainly gone to town to renovate it with very high quality fittings and furnishings. His communication was excellent and we especially appreciated the wine, beer and cakes. Skinningrove is very peaceful and a good base from which to explore the local area.

An offering of early check in was made and very easy to follow instructions to access the key and house in general. We were greeted with a lovely welcome pack and letter, guiding us through how to use appliances and other little bits we may need.
The house is located 5 minutes walk from the beach, which is dog friendly all year round and even though there isn’t much to do in Skinningrove itself, the location is 3.5 miles from Saltburn and Staithes.
The kitchen/dining area is modern, light and a great size, with all the mod cons and amenities needed for cooking and food storage.
The living is on the smaller side but is lovely and comfortable, as well as beautifully decorated.
Two well appointed bedrooms and one family bathroom on the first floor. The beds are comfortable and the bedrooms offer Alexa with great storage/hanging facilities and great lighting.
We were all really impressed and would highly recommend Paul and Griff Cottage.

We booked Griff Cottage for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday and had a brilliant time. Paul has clearly spent a huge amount of time and care renovating the cottage. His efforts have paid off with a property that is first class. The decor is contemporary and welcoming, with comfortable beds and a lovely, modern bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. There were loads of unexpected extra touches that made us feel really welcome.

Griff Cottage is one of the best cottages we have stayed in!
We received great communication from the hosts before our stay and arrived to a lovely, clean, cosy and warm cottage with the most wonderful cakes from a local bakery, cold wine and beers in the fridge and all of the essentials you could need.
The cottage had everything we could have wanted with the added bonus of a 5 star hotel feeling master bedroom with a huge comfortable super king bed.
Our dog loved walks on the local beach, 5 minutes away and was spoilt with an outdoor warm dog shower to get clean after rolling in the sand!

We had a fantastic time with some stunning coastal walks completed in the day and relaxing evenings in Griff cottage. Love, love, love the Sandy beach just down the road, with plenty of fossils found. So much so we hope to be back to enjoy it in warmer months. A lovely place to stay with everything you need, super clean and comfortable and a brilliant welcome pack and Paul was so easy to communicate with.

A perfect little house in good proximity of Staithes and Saltburn on Yorkshire’s East coast. Generously stocked with everything you could need with added touches of luxury. Spotlessly clean with a welcome package second to none and an attentive host. It boasts a new and spacious kitchen downstairs, with a cosy lounge. Beautifully decorated and presented throughout, it was a lovely house to come home to at the end of a busy day. Thank you for looking after us, Paul.
Just returned from a fantastic 4 night stay at Griff cottage. Let’s start with Paul (the host). Had a message around lunch time on the day of arrival with the offer of an early check in and an offer of the heating being turned on for our arrival. Paul messaged a couple of times to check everything was ok, and then to advise us of the checkout procedure on our last night. Excellent communication from the day I made the booking to the day we left. Nothing seem too much trouble, and although we didn’t need anything, I get the impression if we did, it would of been sorted immediately.
The cottage is out of this world! The kitchen dining area is huge and has everything you could possibly need. We had beer, wine, crisps and some amazing cakes left for us plus tea and coffee to welcome us. The living room is snug, but will comfortably sit 4-5 people easily. The sofas are very comfy and great for a relax in the evening. Throws are provided for the dogs, and they agreed the cottage is very comfy & cosy. Upstairs, the master bedroom is on par with a 5* hotel. The bed is massive and so comfy that getting up is a struggle! The second bedroom is smaller, equally as comfy and very well equipped. Both rooms have tv’s and alexa’s. The bathroom is also beautiful. Large powerful shower, bath and double sink. I also loved the mirror that you can Bluetooth music through.
The outside patio/garden area we didn’t use much due to it being January, but in the summer it would be amazing! I loved the doggy shower too, which was warm which my pups loved!
Local to the cottage is two beaches within a 5 min brisk walk. My dogs loved it, and the local people and doggies seemed very friendly. If walking is your thing, there are lots of local walks right from the cottage. Asda, aldi, b&m etc all about 10mins by car maximum.
All in all, this is probably the best air bnb so far I have stayed in, I would 1000% recommend and definitely plan on returning soon

It is only a 5 minute walk to a lovely beach where our dog had lots of fun. A short drive to Whitby and beautiful coastal walks on your doorstep.
It was a lovely surprise to find wine, later, crisps and yummy local cakes left for us, Paul has thought of everything abs couldn’t be more accommodating.
We had a very enjoyable long weekend at Griff cottage- despite some appalling weather. The cottage is cosy and superbly equipped, with every detail having been thought through. It is decorated beautifully throughout and was spotlessly clean . Communication from Paul was first rate and was very welcoming. Skinningrove beach is amazing and as a base to explore the coast it is perfect. Skinningrove itself is not the most picturesque, but the cottage more than makes up for it.

Perfect location for a very quiet and relaxing break. Local beach at the end of the road was lovely, and either short drive or lovely coastal walk to Saltburn or Staithes highly recommended. Absolutely stunning property. Extremely well thought out, interior was stunning and the location was a lovely and perfect for us with some quiet beaches first thing for our dog! (They do get quite busy and have dogs off lead at times)
The kitchen had everything we needed, great appliances and extremely clean throughout. We arrived to a few thoughtful things such as milk, wine, and some brownies which was lovely! They were delicious. My partner enjoyed use of the tablet and sound system to “soundtrack” our weekend it seems!
Check in was easy and contactless. Beds were extremely comfy and shower had fantastic pressure. We walked from Skinningrove to Saltburn and back which I would highly recommend with our dog and we later collected a takeaway from Saltburn which isn’t far at all.
Highly recommend! One of the best properties we’ve stayed in, in terms of the inside, what’s to offer and all the tech! We will be booking with Paul again. He was an extremely helpful and supportive host and nothing was too much if we did need him. Thank you for an exceptional weekend away

Really recommend Griff Cottage. Excellent base for exploring the North Yorkshire coast and moors, so we were able to go to Whitby, Saltburn, Staithes and the Falling Foss waterfall, plus it was only a few minutes walk to Cattersby Sands.
The house itself was beautifully decorated, really clean, comfy and well-equipped. Wine, cakes, tea bags, coffee and fresh milk on arrival were a lovely welcoming touch.
An immaculately presented property, which provided the perfect base for exploring the stunning North East Coast line.
This cottage is stunning! Truly a paradise for dogs, with a huge beach just down the road/5 minute walk at the most. My friends and I have never experienced such a generous welcome before, we had drinks in the fridge, and snacks including local cakes – which went down a treat after the long drive! The cottage is modern and it is very clear everything has been thought through, lots of attention to detail and you can tell Paul takes pride in it. It really had everything we needed, from speakers in the kitchen ceiling, throws and towels for dogs, to cling film and kitchen foil!
We visited staithes for the day which was about 5/10 minute drive, Whitby which was maybe 20 and Robin hoods bay which was about 35 minute drive. This place is just perfect if that’s the sort of break you’re after, in a very peaceful village, down the road from the beach.. but within decent driving distance to other seaside days! We found Griff cottage to be a lovely , cosy, comfortable , well equipped property , with Plenty of parking. Good outdoor space . A short stroll to beach’s and a great place to be based to explore both the coast and nearby moors .
Lovely place to stay well equipped with everything you could need the garden was a plus for our Collie. Beach down the road is also a bonus!

We had a fantastic stay at Paul’s place, the cottage was spotless on arrival and is just as lovely as it appears on the photos! There were tea bags, coffee, sugar, milk, wine and even a bag of ice in the freezer and the cakes went down a treat with the kids! The whole place had everything you could possibly need for your stay, the beds were really comfortable and the shower was so good the kids kept asking to go in which never happens!
Location wise, the cottage is in a quiet village with the beach a stroll away and is perfect for dog walking. We also ate twice in Kaskane which is a 5 minute walk away which we loved! We visited Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Whitby, Scarborough, Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Runswick Bay, the furthest of which being Scarborough at an hour away but everywhere else is under 40 minutes. All places were stunning and we loved being able to go back to a quiet village after the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. All in all 10/10 we had a fabulous time!
I agree with all the previous reviews – everything is great here – a real gem. Top quality appliances and equipment and everything you could need. Excellent communication. We love the area, walking distance to the best beach in the country and Saltburn within easy driving distance.
Absolutely perfect, we couldn’t have wished for better accommodation! Owners are super helpful & kind, the cottage impeccably clean, luxurious & with everything need. My only hesitancy in reviewing quite how much I loved it, is that I’ll never be able to get in again as everyone will want to stay there !

Griff cottage has been renovated to a high standard. The house is well equipped and spotlessly clean. Paul was quick and very thoughtful with all his communications. There were wonderful welcome gifts on arrival. The cakes from Willow cafe bakery were amazing.
Skinningrove is a good base to explore the area. The two beaches in the village are great for dog walking and sunbathing alike. We enjoyed trips to Saltburn, Whitby and Staithes.
Griff Cottage is fabulous. Everything has been well thought out with lovely finishing touches. It’s location is perfect for trips to the beach, though we think it will be cosy in winter too. We will definitely be back!
A fantastic cosy house with such high spec. Paul was a wonderful host, making all communication easy. The small touches really meant a lot and there were plenty of them to make our stay more comfortable.

We’ve just returned from a long weekend at Griff Cottage and wish we could have stayed for longer. The property is stunningly put together and the attention to detail is second to none. The beach is incredible and perfect for young couples/families with pets. We loved Skinningrove and Griff Cottage, and we really hope we can get the chance to come back very soon. Paul and Cath are also excellent with their communication and hospitality. What a gem of a place.
We loved this house, a 2 bedroom terrace which has been completely renovated in a modern and stylish way. Lots of attention to details. We had everything we wanted, great shower, comfortable bed, a really easy and fun place to stay. Great outside space at the back with seating and it got plenty of sun. Very clean and well maintained, we were really impressed
The accommodation was to a very high standard. It was clean and modern and the yard area was a great addition. Communication from Paul was brilliant and he even offered us a later check out.

We had a great stay at griff cottage. From the lovely cakes on arrival to the complementary wine, there are even Bose speakers in the kitchen…they really have thought of everything! The place was spotless and it really felt like home, we didn’t want to leave! We will definitely be coming back!
Superbly appointed and very clean and comfortable. Good instructions for the technology within the cottage. Would thoroughly recommend it. It was lovely to receive the beer, wine and amazing cakes plus other goodies on arrival too.

We had an amazing time at Griff Cottage. As previously reviews have said, a little gem, fantastic attention to detail and wonderful personal touches. Search no more if you like a little luxury. Close to Saltburn and Staithes with a lovely beach 2 mins walk away, near enough to check for the sunset before you leave the house. Thank you.

Fantastic property fitted to a high standard throughout. Great sized bedrooms and luxury bathroom with walk in shower. Kitchen dining area was spacious and very well equipped. We couldn’t fault the house and one of the best we have stayed in over the years. Lovely sun house / shed outside which would be an excellent addition during the summer. The host left some little extras which were gratefully received especially the cakes. Great location to explore the surrounding area and a beach within 5 minutes walk. Would highly recommend this property.
This is an excellent cottage with all high spec fittings and fixtures. Great communication and easy check in. Beautiful and cosy and love the extra touches with some goodies including some home made cakes from a local bakery . Will definitely return
Wow this cottage is one of the best Airbnb places we have stayed in yet. Everything was thought of, a truly relaxing time. The beach is one of the best in England, if not the best. This was a great holiday made even better by the accommodation and hospitality provided by Paul.
Absolutely sensation house refurbished to a very high specification and inundated with lovely little touches. Everything you need is provided and we even had cake wine and crisps on arrival! Parking for 2 cars, a superb yard for al fresh eating and 300 yards from a sensational beach. This is an absolute gem.
An amazing stay at the Griff Cottage in Skinningrove. Communication and attention to detail from the host, Paul, was fantastic and we couldn’t have asked for more. The house is beautifully decorated and really well placed for the local beach and for further afield such as Staithes and Whitby. We will almost certainly be back!
Beautiful house with modern decor and lovely homey touches. Enjoyed cosying in in front of the fire in the evening after long walks on the beach which is only a few minutes walk away. Great communication from Paul our host. Would highly recommend and definitely book again
