BEACH
Skinningrove is blessed with two beaches, from the front door turn right and you will see the sea, either exit from the square will get you there. When you are on the front Skinningrove beach will be in front of you and to the right. Cattersy Sands (or Saltburn Side as us locals call it) is to the left, walk to the Jetty (pier) and you will see an opening to the sands included in the Daily Telegraph list of top 40 UK beaches
BREAKAGES
Please leave a note for us if there is any accidental damages so that we can fix for the next visitors – if we don’t know it is broken we can’t fix it in time, this helps us to make sure each visitors have everything they need
BLUETOOTH
See Alexa above plus, there is a Bluetooth amp in the kitchen diner that by default is connected to the Fire tablet in there. If you would prefer to connect your phone you will need to turn off or disconnect the fire tablet first. The Bluetooth name is “Adastra”. There is also a Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom mirror, the Bluetooth name is “Multi-media mirror”
BUS
The village bus stop is very close, turn left out of the front door, cross the road and its just past the Moonfleet, alternatively and for greater choice of routes and destinations there is a bus stop on the main road just as you turn off for the village with direct busses to Whitby or over the road to Middlesbrough and Saltburn
CAKE
Special mention needs to go to the Willow Cake Shop in nearby Loftus, winners of the Capital of Cake, North Yorkshire 2019
CENTRAL HEATING
The heating is pre-programmed to come on at 6:30 to 8:30in the morning and from 4:30 to 9:00 at night. It can be manually turned on, up or down at any time using the temperature dial to the left of the Skinningrove beach photograph in the kitchen. If you would like to amend the schedule use the fire tablet in the kitchen, Select Library at the top, under Silk browser, click Hive home, when prompted for username and password, click on username and the details will be completed automatically
CLEANING PRODUCTS
Supplied under the sink, there is enough washer and dishwasher capsules under the roller shutter door for one use per day. Mop & Bucket are in cupboard under stairs along with brush and dustpan. The hoover is under the stairs and has a new bag
CHEMIST
There are two in Loftus plus one in Brotton and two in Saltburn
CHILDREN
Please ensure your small children are supervised, especially around areas with steps and on decking, around stoves and fires and all outside areas
CHIP SHOP
There are many fish and chip shops around and most of them very good. The nearest one is Liverton Mines, its a 5 minute drive and has won awards, you should check online for opening times. If you are in Saltburn the best one is the Sea View opposite the pier and in Whitby you can’t really beat the Magpie

DOGS
We would really appreciate keeping dogs off the beds, if they go on the sofa’s please use the throws provided. We provide a dog shower which is hanging on the coat hooks in the garage, this is attached to the 2 silver ended taps outside which are hot and cold. There are dog towels in the dresser below the TV in the kitchen
There are no restrictions on the beach for dogs
There is a well-stocked pet shop “The Ark” in Loftus if you have forgotten anything

EXTRACTOR FAN KITCHEN
Please use the extractor when using the hob, the controls are sliders underneath
EXTRACTOR FAN BATHROOM
This is automatic and comes on with the light, it will go off after a few minutes
FIRE
If you have not used this type of fire before please read carefully.
When lighting the fire turn the knob on the right of the fire towards you sharply, you should be able to see the pilot light below the logs, wait 10 seconds, turn the fire up to your desired setting.
PLEASE turn the fire, including the pilot light, OFF when you go to bed or leave the house
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
A fire extinguisher is available in the under stairs cupboard. This is the water mist variety and can be used safely on class A, B and C items, electric items, hot oil, wood, paper, soft furnishings
FREEVIEW
Upstairs, second bedroom. Skinningrove is in a valley though so Freeview only gets the main channels
FREESAT
Downstairs and main bedroom to get past the limited number of channels, again the remotes are marked. In the living room TV is provided via HDMI1
FRIDGE/ FREEZER
Next to the roller shutter in the kitchen.
Please check and remove all your items of food on departure

Located behind the front door but best to call me if there is an issue. There is an IR heater adjacent to the box and it can get very hot

Hunley Hall is the closest, Saltburn, Whitby and Cleveland and quite close too

The main furniture is available April to October but at other times feel free to use the chairs and table in the summer house outside but please replace them of an evening

To switch the hob on, press the power button for approx. 2 seconds until the cooking zone displays light up

KEYS
One set will be in the key safe with a further set which includes keys for the summer house and garage in bowl on the kitchen table. There is also a single key in the key safe which we like to leave there as the front door locks when it closes

Basic use
Open the door by pressing the left-hand knob
Right hand knob to select the desired function, press first and then right or left (first symbol is microwave). Set the desired time using the left-hand knob. Right hand knob to start.

So… Griff Cottage, what’s in a name. The short version is a Griff is an old Yorkshire name for valley. The longer version, Skinningrove was originally named by Vikings as Skinnara-Gryfja, translated as tanners valley, Gryfja was taken by Yorkshire folk and survives as Griff

There are 2 parking places at the rear of the property, you are also free to park on the street outside. Please ensure your car is suitable for the parking space furthest from the house as it has a steeper entrance

The local shop is very well stocked, it is also a post office offering the ability to withdraw cash, unfortunately it doesn’t sell beer or wine but it does provide great pies from a local butcher
The nearest town is Loftus which has several shops plus a co-op supermarket
The nearest big supermarket is ASDA Skelton which is on a complex that also includes Aldi, McDonalds, Greggs and B&M
Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco all deliver to the village, postcode TS13 4AU, house number 1 (New Company Row)

Each window has a lock, keys are left in the lock. Please do not go out and leave windows open
WASTE – Green bins are for general waste, blue bins are for recycling. Normal days are alternating Fridays but we will usually put the correct bin out as we are passing

Extreme weather conditions are outside of everyone’s control, however if you do find yourself in a situation please call us immediately so we can try and rectify the problem. Any leaks or burst pipes due to snow or heavy rain please inform us immediately.
